Security case studies
Some of the companies for whom we’ve recently delivered simple, cost-effective security solutions:
Capita Symonds were experiencing a number of problems at their London Colney Retail Park. The car park had become a night time stopover for HGV drivers, cars were being dumped, and joyriders were using the car park as a race track. Additionally, the security lighting had been damaged, and metal theft, including the removal of manhole covers, had taken place, as had theft from recycling bins.
Capita Symonds approached Classic Security and asked us to provide a cost-effective solution to the problem. We arranged for a mobile security team to attend the site several nights a week, but varied the hours and nights they patrolled.
In less than a month the problems had virtually ceased. After several encounters, and never knowing when the security team were going to appear, the perpetrators realised that the risk of being caught and reported to the police was too great. Problems at the retail park ceased. Using this method we also halted several issues that our client was unaware of, including the use of the site for internet based prostitution.
Victoria Place is a prestigious retail centre, adjacent to Victoria Underground Station in the centre of London, and contains the shops and restaurants of many high street brands. Classic provides security for the site.
At 01:00 one morning a fire broke out in the Food Court at Victoria Place, started by an electrical fault. The on-site security staff immediately cut the electricity supply, opened the centre to allow access to the emergency services and alerted the Classic Security response centre who, in turn, contacted the centre manager. Our duty manager, who that night was our Operations Director, then drove to the centre manager’s house, picked him up and accompanied him to Victoria Place.
With the centre in darkness and opened to allow emergency access, our Response Centre mobilised our Rapid Response Vehicles to attend the site, in order to strengthen the security presence. With no power on site, we used emergency wind-up torches, supplemented by the rapid response security staff power lights.
Four hours after the alarm had been raised, the Fire Brigade vacated the premises, power was restored and, with the assistance of the Classic team, sufficient contractors were mobilised to enable the centre to open for business on time.
The fact that one of our directors attended this incident in the early hours of the morning and coordinated the security effort is not exceptional. Our management team are hands on. We ‘go the extra mile’ for all our clients, even if that involves picking them up in the early hours! That is the Classic way, because we really do care.
